Off-shoring! On-shoring! - What is the "true" cost of doing business on a global scale?

Off-shoring! On-shoring! What is the "true" cost of doing business on a global scale?

February 24th, 2011, 2:00 pm until 6:30 PM - Thornblade Country Club

The Upstate Supply Chain Management Coalition invites you to attend a panel discussion focused on International Supply Chain Management. This will be a joint meeting with members of Innovision Technology Forum, APICS, SME, IIE, IEEE, ASQ, ASME, CSCMP, and ISM. This meeting is open to everyone. The goal of this meeting is twofold; first, to provide education on aspects of Supply Chain Management and secondly, to demonstrate to local leaders the value that professional societies and benchmarking discussions provide in growing a business. This will be an intimate setting, with attendance limited to the first 80 people who RSVP.

We are pleased to announce that Tom Krupka will moderate the meeting. Tom was the National President of APICS in 2005 and the Chairman of the APICS National Board of Directors in 2009. He has earned international recognition in Supply Chain Management.

Come join us for an in-depth look at the "landed cost" of sourcing and supplying product throughout our world. Companies are just beginning to evaluate the true cost and the non-value added aspects of
tremendously long, and many times slow and inflexible, supply chains. For years, executives looked at the Unit Price of each component without incorporating all the economic costs of sourcing or producing a good. It’s time to evaluate manufacturing in the USA as a cost effective location. We provide logic for US based manufacturing.

The panel will discuss a range of topics including:

    • Has the trend towards globalization helped or hurt national economics?
    • What has the impact been on worker income and on firm profits?
    • How to mitigate the risks like volcanoes, union work stoppages, and political unrest.
    • What are the “real” travel costs - both financial and personal.
    • How does international travel create a personnel burden and opportunity costs for individual
    employees.
    • Engineering costs - if design or product development is 30 hours away from mfg. how does this
    disrupt interaction between the departments.
    • Social costs - moral, foreign language difficulties, meetings at 3:00 am or 11:00 pm.
    • Financial costs - what is the cost to expedite freight around the world? Does this drop down to the
product cost, or does it fall under logistics?

Panel Members:
Mark Fendley - Director of Continuous Improvement at BMW
Sammy Riddle – CEO of M33 Integrated
Mr. Steve Hanvey, President of our TechWorks Division of Ranger Aerospace
Will Franks – Vice President of Reliable Automatic Sprinkler
