Fisher and Phillips’ Attorney Named Emerging Legal Leaders Finalist

COLUMBIA, S.C. (January 19, 2011) — National labor and employment law firm Fisher & Phillips LLP is pleased to announce that Karen Luchka, an associate in the Columbia office, is a finalist to receive the inaugural South Carolina Lawyers Weekly’s Emerging Legal Leader award. The honor is given to attorneys who have been in the profession 10 years or less and have already made a lasting impact in both their field and their communities. South Carolina Lawyers Weekly accepted nominations for the award and then selected 18 top finalists from the pool of nominees.

“Luchka litigates on behalf of and counsels Fisher & Phillips clients in South Carolina and nationwide,” says Jonathan Pearson, managing partner of the Columbia office. “She’s an asset when it comes to a broad range of employment issues. Clients are particularly impressed with her down to earth, practical advice. She deserves this recognition.”

Luchka regularly lectures at seminars on the Family and Medical Leave Act, legal ethics, wage and hour issues, harassment, social networking and technology, and other employment topics. She recently served as a speaker on Ethics and Technology at the South Carolina Bar Convention in Hilton Head, SC. Luchka has authored numerous articles in the area of employment law.

In addition to serving on the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts of South Carolina: Mountains to Midlands, Luchka continues the mission of inspiring today’s girls to become tomorrow’s leaders through contributions on the Governance Committee, Nominating Committee and Development Committee. She is also Chair of the Council’s Women of Distinction Event, an annual event that honors women in the Midlands who have achieved excellence both in their careers, as well as through their service to our community.

“It is an honor to be nominated and recognized in the company of such a qualified group of finalists,” said Luchka.

The 10 winners of this award will be announced at a reception held at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center on January 27, 2011 from 4-6 p.m.

Luchka formerly practiced under the name Karen Gieselman.
