Pierce to lecture on walking/running at Woodlands at Furman
Marathon “supercoach” and Furman professor Dr. Bill Pierce will be holding a two-part seminar on the benefits of running and walking at The Woodlands at Furman in March and April.
The lectures are part of the Woodlands at Furman’s and Greenville Track Club’s join-collaboration to get more of the Upstate’s seniors taking part in running and walking events. Called the Woodlands at Furman Challenge, the series is aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and will honor the top participants at the end of the year.
The first lecture will be held on March 18 at 11 a.m. and the second lecture will be April 1 at 11 a.m. at the Woodlands at Furman, 1500 Trailhead Court, Greenville. The events are open to the public. Please RSVP to Angela Bagwell at 864-371-3123 to reserve a space. These lectures are being done to help people get ready for the Greer Earth Day Run.
Pierce is a professor and chair of the Health Sciences department and co-founder of the Furman Institute of Running and Scientific Training (FIRST). Pierce is an avid runner and co-authored the book entitled “ Runner’s World Run Less, Run Faster.” He was listed as one of the top ten marathon “supercoaches” by Runner’s World magazine. The Woodlands at Furman wants all Upstate seniors to enjoy a healthy retirement.
The Greenville Track Club is the state’s second-oldest running club. The club’s goal is to provide the running and fitness community with a schedule of top quality events in which area residents can reach fitness and life enrichment goals through participation or volunteering.
