Ellis Lawhorne’s Cullum Named to USC Educational Foundation Board

COLUMBIA, S.C., February 22, 2011 – Ellis Lawhorne is pleased to announce that Rita Bragg Cullum, a shareholder in the Firm, has been named to the University of South Carolina’s (USC) Educational Foundation Board. Cullum also has served for a number of years as chair of the USC Guardian Society, which promotes planned giving to USC.

The USC Educational Foundation supports the University in all of its educational, research, instructional, scientific, literary, service, charitable, and outreach endeavors. The Foundation aids the University in achieving its mission as the state’s flagship institution of higher education. The Board is composed of some 22 members from across the nation who advise the Foundation on various issues.

Cullum is well prepared for her role on the USC Educational Foundation Board. A member of Ellis Lawhorne’s Trusts and Estates Practice Group, she is among the top trusts and estates attorneys in South Carolina. In addition to developing estate plans, she also works extensively in the complex area of planned giving that includes charitable trusts, charitable gift annuities and other gift agreements.

Cullum holds two degrees from USC. She graduated magna cum laude and number one in the School of Business and earned her Juris Doctor from the USC School of Law. She is actively involved in the South Carolina Planned Giving Council, Columbia Tax Study Group and Columbia Estate Planning Council. She is a Fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and the South Carolina State Chair Elect of the organization.
