Leadership Seminar - John Helmers "The Coming Economic Recovery and How to Profit From It"
Featured Guest Speaker: John B. Helmers, principal and chief investment officer of Swiftwater Capital Management, a firm he founded in 2004 in Greenville, SC. The firm applies disciplined, value-based investment strategies to its equities, macro, commodities and real estate investments.
Helmers began his career as a fixed income trader at J.P. Morgan Securities before becoming an independent market maker in the bond pit of the CBOT. Mr. Helmers joined the J. Aron division of Goldman Sachs in 1992. He ran the Goldman Sachs Commodity Index (GSCI) business, managing over $1 billion of GSCI-indexed money, an extensive futures arbitrage business, a large swap book, and an exotic options business.
Following his departure from Goldman Sachs in 1997, Helmers was a portfolio manager for Tudor Investment Corporation where he traded a macro book. He left after six years to join Satoha, a long/short equity fund with a macro overlay. From 2004 through 2007, Helmers actively managed the Swiftwater Capital portfolio. He joined Citadel Investment Group in 2008, managing a macro investment portfolio until early 2010, when he returned to Swiftwater.
Mr. Helmers graduated with honors from Princeton University with a BSE in Engineering in 1987.
