Global Service Jam - Greenville -March 11
The Global Service Jam will introduce the budding field of service design to people around the world, while exploring the creative process in its various forms. Teams from over 40 cities will come together March 11-13 to create new service concepts based on a theme that will remain unknown until the jam begins. Among the global host cities are Sydney, Tokyo, Shanghai, Istanbul, Cape Town, Sao Paulo, Valencia, Berlin, London, Glasgow, Scotland, Toronto and Calgary, New York and San Francisco.
The Global Service Jam is based on the concept of a musical jam session- hanging out, chilling, creating and having fun together. New ideas will be tried out and participants will learn by doing. “You don’t have to have experience in service design to participate,” says local organizer Joel Van Dyke, “just and creative mind, a collaborative attitude, and an adventurous spirit.”
“It’s an emergent process,” says Melbourne, Australia participant Dr. Melis Senova. “You get some people together and they explore a bunch of ideas until they hit upon something interesting. The key is having a fusion of talented people who are willing to experiment and challenge each other, each bringing a different piece of the puzzle.”
The event itself has few guidelines apart from a 48 hour timeframe. A theme is revealed to jam organizers at the start of the weekend as inspiration, but after that, it’s up to the local teams to find their way with some guidance from the local organizer. Individuals participate and teams are formed after the theme has been introduced.
Participants can use social media for quick feedback and crowd sourcing, and the sites will be linked live to the home base in Nuremburg, Germany via the internet.
The event will be held at Greenville's NEXT Innovation Center. Catering will be provided by GoodLife Catering.
