Midlands Technical College Foundation Receives $50,000 Grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation

The Midlands Technical College Foundation today announced a $50,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation. The funds will be used to provide tuition assistance for unemployed or underemployed residents of Lexington and Richland counties to pursue training at Midlands Technical College (MTC) through the college’s QuickJobs training program.

“The key to community-wide advancement in this difficult economy is providing relevant, career-oriented higher education through programs like MTC’s QuickJobs,” said MTC president Dr. Marshall (Sonny) White, Jr. “We are grateful to Bank of America for their generous support of the college’s work in this vital area.”

QuickJobs is a program designed to offer skills training that results in an industry-recognized credential. The program is designed to quickly meet the needs of participants and provide the training needed to move into employment.

“There is an immediate need to train individuals who are unemployed or underemployed for available jobs that provide living wages,” said Kim Wilkerson, South Carolina president for Bank of America. “Bank of America is proud to continue our support of Midlands Technical College’s goal of providing a quality workforce readiness program. This investment not only helps individuals, but also helps the economy by providing businesses with a much needed human resource.”

The scholarship funds will go to support individuals whose annual earnings are below 80 percent of the median family income for Lexington and Richland counties ($41,924), and will be awarded through an application process beginning immediately. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 25, 2011, and awards will be made by April 15, 2011.
