Cullum, Runge Receive 2011 Leadership in Law Awards from South Carolina Lawyers Weekly

COLUMBIA, S.C., March 24, 2011 – Ellis Lawhorne is pleased to announce that Rita Bragg Cullum, and Louis T. “Tom” Runge, Jr., shareholders in the Firm, have been named recipients of the 2011 Leadership in Law Award by South Carolina Lawyers Weekly. The two are among 15 attorneys from across the state that will be honored at a gala dinner at the Frances Marion Hotel in Charleston on March 24.

This is the third annual Leadership in Law Awards, which recognizes attorneys who have demonstrated leadership within the legal profession and through community service. Winners were nominated by peers and colleagues and selected by the publisher and staff of South Carolina Lawyers Weekly. Cullum, Runge, and the other winners will be featured in a commemorative report posted on www.sclawyersweekly.com.

Cullum is a member of Ellis Lawhorne’s Trusts and Estates Practice Group and is among the top trusts and estates attorneys in South Carolina. She works extensively in the complex area of planned giving that includes charitable trusts, charitable gift annuities and other gift agreements. Cullum graduated magna cum laude from the University of South Carolina (USC) School of Business and earned her Juris Doctor from the USC School of Law. She is a member of the USC Educational Foundation Board of Directors and chair of the USC Guardian Society. She is actively involved in the South Carolina Planned Giving Council, Columbia Tax Study Group and Columbia Estate Planning Council. She is a fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and chair elect of the organization’s South Carolina chapter. Cullum is a member of the South Carolina Bar and the Richland County Bar.

Runge is a member of Ellis Lawhorne’s Business, Real Estate and Finance Practice Group. He focuses his practice on real estate acquisitions, financing and development; lending and financing transactions; and commercial leasing. Prior to becoming an attorney, he worked in banking. Runge earned a Bachelor’s of Science from Clemson University, a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of South Carolina (USC) Darla Moore School of Business, and his Juris Doctor from the USC School of Law. He is president of the Trinity Housing

Corporation Board of Directors, a member of the Hammond School Board of Directors, and serves on the vestry of Trinity Cathedral. He is a member of the South Carolina Bar and Richland County Bar, and is admitted in the U.S. District Court, District of South Carolina.
