“This is the eighth annual InnoVenture Southeast conference,” said John Warner, founder and CEO of InnoVenture. “Through two days of powerful presentations, facilitated conversations, and high impact innovation exhibits, sparks will fly and connections will be made at this year’s conference more than ever”
Over the years, InnoVenture has had a string of success stories of high impact innovations being commercialized by connecting major companies, universities, and entrepreneurs. Michael Bolick started his company based on a connection made with Clemson at an early InnoVenture Southeast Conference. After a recent merger with a UK pharmaceutical company introduce by Nexus Medical Partners, Michael is CEO of Lab21, Inc., which has built is North American headquarters and one of the world’s first personalized medicine laboratories in Greenville, SC. Lab21 works closely with Greenville Hospital, Clemson, and the University of South Carolina.
Following Michaels’s lead, Ralph Hulseman spun out of Michelin Research to start Hoowaki based on connections made at InnoVenture Southeast. Hoowaki’s distinctive surface transformation technology is initially focused on significantly enhancing the productivity of extrusion processes. Hoowaki works closely with Michelin, St. Jude Medical, Clemson and the University of Illinois, along with other global customers. Hoowaki was recently featured as one of seven companies on the “4th Annual Society of Manufacturing Engineers List of Innovations That Could Change the Way You Manufacture.” Both Lab21 and Hoowaki have received investments from SC Launch as well as other investors.
“All of this comes down to innovation being a contact sport, and you can’t have that contact without putting everyone in one room at one time,” said John Balatto, Clemson University’s Associate Vice President of Research said. “We will continue to be an active supporter of InnoVenture, and every year we find something new and useful out of the conference.”
