In his book, "A Whole New Mind", Dan Pink argues that the activity of left side of the brain, which is responsible for facts & figures, logical analysis etc, is necessary but no longer sufficient. Instead he points out that the right brain qualities of inventiveness, empathy, joyfulness and meaning will determine who flourishes and who flounders in this competitive world.
In this interactive session presented by the Carolinas Chapter of the Product Development and Management Association we will explore how we can exploit, or better use, differences in brain capabilities to improve individual and team effectiveness, problem solving and how to better understand and satisfy customer needs. The tool we will use is the Herrmann Brain Dominance Indicator (HBDI).
The HBDI identifies four quadrants of thinking styles:
A, Analyzer - Logical thinking, analysis of facts, processing numbers
B, Organizer - Planning approaches, organizing facts, detailed review
C, Personalizer -Interpersonal, intuitive, expressive
D, Visualizer - Imaginative, big picture thinking, conceptualizing.
The HBDI is used to improve communications, to help maximize team performance and to fit the right person to the right job. Specifically:
• Groups with diverse thinking are capable of significantly greater output than groups whose thinking is alike
• Learning how to manage your mental preferences allows you to more effectively interact with others and understand their needs
• Matching an individuals' preferences with job requirements can dramatically improve efficiency
Who Should Attend: Anyone who has a stake in an organization's innovation, new products, and product management capabilities: new product development and management executives, practinioners who are interested in growing or changing their roles within organizations, professionals with team excellence and education/training responsibilities.
This event qualifies as two (2) Professional Development Hours toward PDMA’s NPDP recertification.

About the Speakers:
Doug Wilson, PhD is President of Blue Mango Innovations LLC. With over 25 years experience in new business development with BP and related companies mainly in the field of advanced materials, Doug is also familiar with aerospace, defence, energy, automotive and general industrial market sectors. He is highly creative with a strong ability to "connect the dots" ( ENTP Myers Briggs, 140 KAI and 1,2,1,1+ HBDI)
David Phillips is currently an Innovation Consultant with Blue Mango Innovations, LLC and Innovation Provocateur at FastGlass Consulting. David specializes in applying the principles of innovation and people-centered design to help organizations tackle their "unsolvable" problems and transform the experiences they provide to their customers and employees. He has more than five years experience at Bank of America.
Aaron Arvia is a senior Project Engineer and Tech Scout, R&D at Electrolux Major Appliances. Aaron specializes in finding new and interesting applications for science and technologies. Thinking beyond the normal boundaries of our technical expertise. Seeing the promise of technologies never before considered for our industry.
