KTM SOLUTIONS Launches Mechanical Design Apprenticeship Program - First in South Carolina

Greenville, S.C., June 1, 2011 – KTM Solutions and Apprenticeship Carolina™, a division of the South Carolina Technical College System, are proud to announce the establishment of a federally recognized apprenticeship program for KTM employees. This is the first apprenticeship program in the state that has been registered for Mechanical Design. Candidates participate in the program for 4 years as they pursue either a technical associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree in engineering.

KTM Solutions (www.ktmsolutions.com) is a mechanical engineering company that enables aerospace, automotive, and machine design companies to successfully complete urgent mechanical design projects without enlarging or overwhelming current staff. KTM Engineers will begin a project within 24 hours of an order, and are equipped with mobile technology to work with their clients from day one until project completion. This service is called On Demand Engineering®.

“At KTM, we take great pride in our ability to quickly respond to our clients’ needs,” said Paul Kumler, KTM Solutions President. “In order to ensure continued service to our clients, we feel a strong sense of responsibility to develop the next generation of engineering talent. We think the apprenticeship program is going to help us maintain the high level of quality that is our standard, while developing new employees to meet these future challenges.”

During the Apprenticeship, the apprentice will receive work experience and job related education in all phases of the occupation, including safe work practices, necessary to develop the skill and proficiency of a skilled professional. The program includes successful completion of 2000 engineering hours. Apprentices will be able to create and/or check drawings for compliance to drafting standards, demonstrate knowledge and application of Geometric Tolerance, and demonstrate an understanding of part dimensioning, how tolerances accumulate, and how dimensioning will drive manufacturing processes. Apprentices will also learn to apply the fundamentals of engineering mechanics to practical engineering problems, a valuable asset giving applicants marketable skills even prior to completion of a degree. “Apprenticeship Carolina™ has been an invaluable partner in helping us establish this program,” added Kumler.

Apprenticeship Carolina™ delivers systematic, structured training programs designed to help companies and their employees adapt to a broader global market. “The effectiveness of apprenticeship as a career development tool is becoming quite clear in South Carolina as Apprenticeship Carolina™ continues to average one federally registered program per week,” said Melinda Eagle, Director of Apprenticeship Carolina™. “As more organizations across the state begin to realize the benefits of registered apprenticeships, Apprenticeship Carolina™ and the technical colleges of South Carolina look forward to working with them to provide the necessary assistance and training.”

Apprenticeship Carolina™ is a new division of the South Carolina Technical College System that works to ensure all employers in South Carolina have access to the information and technical assistance they need to create demand-driven registered apprenticeship programs. Apprenticeship consultants are available to guide companies through the registered apprenticeship development process from initial information to full recognition in the National Registered Apprenticeship System. These services are available to South Carolina employers free of charge. Interested employers are encouraged to contact Apprenticeship Carolina™ at (803) 896-5287 or to visit www.apprenticeshipcarolina.com.
