SC Chapter US Green Building Council Announces 2011 Leadership Awards

The US Green Building Council SC Chapter honored an outstanding individual, a team and two projects this year at the Sustain SC 2011 conference luncheon held at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.

This year's individual and team Leadership Award recipients have furthered the cause of green building in South Carolina.

- Don Cameron, CEO of the Housing Authority of the City of Charleston for establishing the Housing Authority's Sustainable Affordable Housing program
- YMCA of Coastal Carolina Project Team developed two LEED Gold certified buildings which are among the first in the Grand Strand area.

This year's, Exemplary Project honorees are characterized by unique environmental, social and economic success, as well as their ability to inspire others.

- Jackson School (Kershaw County School District), LEED Gold
- Holiday Inn Express Columbia - Airport, LEED Gold

Past award recipients included:

2006: University of South Carolina, Furman University, Clemson University, John Knott (Noisette)

2007: S.C. Energy Office, Craig Gaulden Davis, Coastal Carolina University, Sen. James Ritchie

2008: Mayor Keith Summey (City of North Charleston), Upstate Forever, 7th Grade Teachers of Georgetown Middle School, Dennis Knight

2010: James Meadors (Charleston Green Committee), Tony Bakker, Frank Powell (Furman University), Beezer Molten (Halfmoon Outfitters)

Keith Sanders Service Award, for outstanding service to the Chapter: Denise Sherman, Allen Taylor
