Dean Schuster of truematter Selected to Run Antarctica Marathon for Charity
Columbia, SC — True Matter, LLC (truematter) is proud to announce that our own Dean Schuster (partner, experience design) will run the 2012 Antarctica Marathon to support Antarctic conservation and the preservation of our friends, the penguins.
The race is a full marathon (26.2 miles) and will take place on the Antarctic Peninsula on March 9th, 2012. The course will wind between the Russian, Chinese, Uruguayan and Chilean research stations. Because the race is remote and the landscape inhospitable, very few runners worldwide have ever attempted it. How will Dean train in the summer heat of famously hot Columbia, South Carolina? Follow his adventure on Twitter (@deanguin).
“Dean is an accomplished runner. He runs ultramarathons up mountains and I’ve no doubt he’s up to the challenges of the frozen South. Knowing him, he’ll probably train in an ice cream freezer,” said Rusty Farrell, partner and president of truematter.
Dean is running the marathon to raise money for Oceanites (Ocean-Eye-Tees), a non-profit science and education foundation dedicated to the understanding and conservation of the world's oceans, islands, wildlife and the important and breathtaking land of Antarctica. Oceanites promotes appreciation for the sensitive connections people have to our watery globe and its ongoing major research project is the unparalleled Antarctic Site Inventory — the only publicly supported scientific project monitoring and analyzing Antarctic penguin population changes.
“I look forward to the excitement of running in Antarctica, but promoting the understanding and conservation of natural resources is truly the greater adventure,” Said Dean. “I’m proud to be called a friend of the penguin.”
Ron Naveen, Founder and CEO of Oceanites said, “Antarctica may seem like a harsh, foreboding place, but it’s really quite fragile. We fulfill an important responsibility when we care for virtually pristine habitat — and we’re totally grateful Dean’s going to raise awareness about penguin population changes in the vastly warming Antarctic Peninsula.”
Dean is committed to raising at least $30,000 for this worthy cause.
