Todd Usher is First-Ever Builder to Earn MCGP Designation
GREENVILLE, S.C., July 1, 2011 — Todd Usher has the distinction of being the first-ever builder to earn the Master Certified Green Professional (MCGP) designation from the National Association of Home Builders.
Usher, president of Greenville-based Addison Homes, completed requirements for the new designation before any other homebuilder in the country by demonstrating a deep understanding of sustainable building techniques and methods that achieve higher energy-efficiency.
“Addison Homes is 100% committed to environmentally-friendly construction standards,” says Usher. “We build every home to very rigorous ENERGY STAR® and EarthCraft House™ standards. This guarantees our clients a healthier, more comfortable and more durable home with the added perk of reduced utility and maintenance bills.”
NAHB created the new Master Certified Green Professional designation to teach strategies for incorporating green building principals into homes using cost-effective and affordable options. This new “Master” certification builds on the Certified Green Professional program. MCGP candidates must complete required coursework, have five years’ experience in green building, and have certified at least three homes in a three-year period to a nationally recognized rating system such as the National Green Building Standard.
“We at Addison Homes are committed to staying on top of the most current trends in green building, and that includes continuing education,” Usher says. “I’m proud to be the first homebuilder in the country to add the MCGP designation to my list of qualifications.”
