Inspirations of the Month Wanted

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Their stories are out there: a breast cancer survivor, a spouse who never lost hope, a healthcare provider who served as a shining beacon of light during what could be seen as a dark time, or a friend who always brought laughter, even through tears. They’re out there – inspirational people who made all the difference in someone’s fight against breast cancer.

The South Carolina Mountains to Midlands Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is looking for positive, inspired stories throughout the community to share on its Facebook page and website as part of its new “Inspiration of the Month” program. Potential nominees featured could include a survivor, co-survivor, family member, friend or healthcare provider.

Community members are invited to nominate someone to be recognized as one of the “Inspirations of the Month” by uploading a photo and story to the Promotions tab of the S.C. Mountains to Midlands Affiliate’s Facebook page.

Each photo and story will be featured in an “Inspiration of the Month” photo album, providing a place for everyone to celebrate the nominees. At the end of each month, one nominee will be selected as the featured “Inspiration of the Month,” and in return will receive a $50 gift card to Dicks Sporting Goods, and a $25 gift card to Belk department store.

The featured “Inspiration of the Month” will also receive prominent placement on the S.C. Mountains to the Midlands Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s Facebook page and website.

“If you or someone you know has had breast cancer, you know how important it is to surround yourself with positive people and stories,” said Ryan Tollefson, executive director of the S.C. Mountains to the Midlands Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. “By gathering these inspirational stories together in one place, we create a scrapbook of shared experiences, and celebrate those people who encourage and motivate breast cancer survivors – and all of us—every day.”

About Komen
In 1980, Nancy G. Brinker watched helplessly as her sister, Susan G. Komen, died after a three-year battle with breast cancer. Before Susan died, Nancy made a promise that would change the world: to end breast cancer forever.

In 1982, that promise launched Susan G. Komen for the Cure, which in 26 years, has become the global leader of the breast cancer movement, creating the world's largest grassroots network of cancer survivors and activists, investing hundreds of millions of dollars each year for research, education, screening and treatment and encouraging governments everywhere to make cancer a top priority.

The SC Mountains to Midlands Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is dedicated to combating breast cancer at every front. Up to 75 percent of the Affiliate’s net income goes toward funding grants to local hospitals and community organizations that provide breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs for medically underserved women.
