Oconee County Awards Network Controls $2.7 Million Contract To Install Buried Fiber Optic Cable

(GREER, SC) August 9, 2011 – Network Controls and Electric Inc (Network Controls) was awarded a $2.7 million contract by the Oconee County Council on August 8 as the council appointed Network Controls to install 95 miles of buried fiber optic cable in Oconee County for Phase One of the “Project FOCUS” 270-mile broadband network initiative.

“It is an honor for our company to partner with Oconee County to bring the broadband infrastructure to Oconee County and we are pleased to be a part of Oconee's mission to enhance technology for businesses, schools and its residents,” said Brad Cunningham, CEO of Network Controls.

The work represents the outcome of a $9.6 million federal grant that Oconee County received in August of 2010 to construct the broadband infrastructure to benefit 2,230 businesses, 75 public facilities including schools, hospitals, libraries and emergency shelters and 25,200 households in Oconee County. The grant, provided under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, requires Oconee County to provide matching funds, bringing the estimated project total to $14 million.

Network Controls will use JET Commercial, of Oconee as a subcontractor on this project, providing enhanced knowledge of the 95 miles of regional terrain. Further, the company will collaborate with the project engineer, Geovision, of Sylva, NC, which will provide the drawings for the installation. "The process for bidding, winning and now executing this project has been a team effort, involving the senior staff within Network Controls as well as our financial partners, vendors and operational subcontractors all combined to make this a success", added Cunningham.

“Network Controls and Electric was chosen based on the scoring criteria and we are glad to have them on board for this significant project for the residents of Oconee County,” said Scott Moulder, Oconee County Administrator.

On July 14th, Oconee County opened the sealed proposals for this project. Twelve firms submitted proposals, and the six-person selection committee unanimously chose Network Controls.
