Greenville’s Jim Decker receives Pillar of the Industry award

V.P. of brand management for Progress Lighting recognized for meaningful service to advance the lighting industry

GREENVILLE, S.C., Sept. 22, 2011 – Jim Decker was recently honored with a Pillar of the Industry award at the American Lighting Association’s (ALA) Annual Conference in Palm Beach, Fla. The Pillar of the Industry awards recognize up to three ALA members for their unique and meaningful service - to advance the lighting industry, as well as the ALA’s programs and mission during the previous 18 months.

Decker is currently vice president of brand management at Greenville-based Progress Lighting Inc., a division of Hubbell Incorporated, where he oversees marketing, sales, and product development operations.

Examples of Decker’s service include:
o Exceptional leadership in the development of decorative lighting industry’s first product data standard. The standard has enabled the industry to streamline database management for manufacturers and showrooms, alike.
o Oversee the development and adoption of a series of defined database fields for products that are now used by most all major lighting manufacturers and showrooms. This adopted standard has saved the industry millions of dollars and countless man-hours.

Award recipients are nominated by ALA members and staff, and are selected by the ALA Awards Committee.

A previous winner of Residential Lighting magazine’s industry Leadership Award, he has also been active in ALA membership campaigns and served as charter member of the ALA Bi-National Advertising and PR Program. He is currently on the Dallas Market Center’s Lighting Board of Governors.

He joined Progress Lighting in 1993 as vice president of marketing.

Other recipients of the Pillar of the Industry award this year were Fred Fennell, owner of Fennell Marketing and Sales, and Larry King, president and owner of Capital Lighting.
