Furman Student and Graduate Join the Appalachian Development Corporation

Appalachian Development Corporation (appalachiandevelopmentcorp.com) is proud to announce that Andrew Hoyer-Booth and Michael Tensley have joined the organization for the fall of 2011as Business Finance Interns in ADC’s Micro Loan Program.

In their positions, Hoyer-Booth and Tensley will provide technical assistance, consulting, and financing (50k and under) for start-up and existing small businesses. Successful fulfillment of these duties will help develop entrepreneurs to create and grow strong, sustainable businesses throughout the Upstate.

Andrew Hoyer-Booth is a 2009 graduate of Furman University where he majored in Communications. Prior to joining ADC, he spent two years working as an AmeriCorps member for Christmas In Action Spartanburg, a community development nonprofit serving Spartanburg County. In this role Andrew worked mainly as a project manager, coordinating the rehabilitation of more than 125 homes.

Michael Tensley is a senior Business Administration major at Furman University. Upon graduation, he plans to pursue a career in banking. While at Furman University, Michael has studied abroad in Brussels, Belgium during which time he held an internship with the U.S. Mission to the EU Commercial Division. This past summer, he also held an internship with Abacus Planning Group in Columbia, South Carolina.

The Appalachian Development Corporation (ADC) is a non-profit economic development lending corporation offering multiple financing options that can be structured to meet various needs using “gap-financing” loans. ADC’s primary target area of operations is the six counties of Upstate South Carolina. Additionally, the ADC is an approved lender for the USDA Rural Micro Entrepreneur Assistance Program and the SBA Micro Loan Assistance Program. Through these programs eligible candidates receive technical assistance (TA) to support the development and ongoing success of their business. This program targets eight counties of Upstate South Carolina and provides micro loans up to $50K.
