Governor’s School for Science and Math Foundation Takes Home IABC South Carolina Award of Merit
The South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) Foundation won an Award of Merit from the SC chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). The award recognized the GSSM Smart Campaign, a marketing communication effort that has been in place for two years. The Foundation accepted the award Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at the Palmetto Awards Luncheon in downtown Columbia.
The Smart Campaign aims to create a stand-out name for the School’s existing 24/7 brand, which recently expanded to incorporate “smart” into each recruitment and donor marketing communication piece. This campaign provided an excellent opportunity for the School to showcase its curriculum, its residential component and its 40+ extracurricular activities. Most importantly, the campaign informs the state that GSSM means 24/7 smart.
The Palmetto Awards are presented annually by IABC South Carolina to recognize excellence in communication within the state. The program is open to all professional communicators and offers seven categories for entry: communication management, internal communications programs, external communications programs, online and electronic communications, print communications, writing and design.
Accepting the award in the external communications category and marketing communication subcategory, GSSM’s score was based on the campaign’s measurable goals and objectives, effective execution of plans, success in addressing a specific audience and the immediate communication need, along with the campaign’s effect on the organization.
This recognition signifies the fourth year GSSM has taken home a Palmetto Award of Merit. In 2006, 2007 and 2008 the Foundation won for its excellence in publications, communication campaigns and programs, and print communications.
