ADEX Machining Soars with Black Hawk Helicopter Parts Contract
Company to Produce Tail Rotor Assemblies for Sikorsky Aircraft’s Black Hawk UH-60

(GREENVILLE, SC, June 4, 2012) – ADEX Machining Technologies, a manufacturer of precision machined components for aerospace, defense and energy industries, announced today that it has been awarded a multi-year contract by Sikorsky Aircraft, a division of Connecticut-based parent company United Technologies Corporation (NYSE: UTX), to produce Tail Rotor Retention Assemblies for the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter. The assemblies involve advanced 5-Axis CNC (Computer Numerical Controlled) Milling of hard-alloy Titanium metal materials, in addition to value-added components kitting, and will be used for upgrades and maintenance replacement projects for existing helicopters in service around the world.

Sikorsky was founded in 1926 by aircraft engineer Igor Ivanovich Sikorsky, a Russian-born American immigrant, who designed and personally flew the first viable American helicopter which pioneered the rotor configuration used by most helicopters today. The famed UH-60 Black Hawk first entered service with the U.S. Army’s 101st Combat Aviation Brigade in June 1979, and since then has expanded with modifications for new missions and roles including medical evacuation, sea rescue, electronic warfare, troop transport, and air assault with the U.S. Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard, in addition to services among many allied nations. A VIP version is used to transport government officials with the call sign of “Marine One” when transporting the President of the United States.

“We’re excited to manufacture important components for such a prestigious organization as Sikorsky Aircraft with a rich history of innovation”, said Jason Premo, co-owner of ADEX Machining Technologies. “We are honored that the ADEX team will play a role in keeping our nation’s helicopter assets in the air, from fulfilling important missions that protect and serve our soldiers in harms-way, to delivering medical aid or rescue efforts in the most challenging areas.”

ADEX will begin delivering the assemblies in late 2012 and as a qualified supplier can pursue additional aerospace manufacturing opportunities within Sikorsky, focusing on areas that highlight the company’s core competencies in 5-Axis CNC Milling, tight tolerance machining, Lean Manufacturing, and experience in exotic materials such as 7075 Aircraft Aluminum, Titanium 6-AL-4V, 17-4PH and composites.
