Three Smith Moore Leatherwood LLP attorneys have been recognized in Greenville Business Magazine’s Legal Elite of the Upstate 2012. Jack Riordan and Kurt Rozelsky were acknowledged in the area of commercial transportation; Steve Farrar was acknowledged in the area of insurance. The acknowledged attorneys were nominated by their peers and could only be considered if nominated by a peer outside of his or her own firm.
Steven E. Farrar
Steve Farrar is an experienced trial lawyer whose practice focuses on advising clients in complex cases and protecting them in and out of court. He routinely works on cases involving complicated business litigation, professional liability defense, construction litigation and major products liability issues. He has tried numerous cases including, among others, fighting charges of securities fraud and improper corporate activity, defending accountants and lawyers in malpractice actions and defending automobile manufacturers from product liability exposure. In addition, he has served as counsel for a federally appointed Receiver in a criminal action case, and in that role he helped recover millions of dollars for defrauded investors. Farrar is a Certified Public Accountant and certified as a civil mediator by the South Carolina Bar Association.
A member of the firm’s litigation and transportation practice groups, Riordan has a varied practice representing the interests of insurance companies, their policyholders, independent business entities and individuals either in civil or criminal litigation. He has a wealth of front-line litigation experience throughout the respective Courts of the state of South Carolina, having previously served as an Assistant Solicitor for the Fifth Judicial Circuit and with the Capital Litigation Section and the State Wide Grand Jury as an Assistant Attorney General. Riordan is a current member of the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association’s Executive Committee, serving as Chair of the Trucking Substantive Law Committee, a member of the Marketing Committee and as an editor of The DefenseLine. Riordan was selected by his peers for inclusion in the 2012 edition of The Best Lawyers In America® in the practice area of Personal Injury Litigation.
A member of the firm's litigation practice group, Rozelsky primarily represents insurance companies and business entities in litigated matters. The majority of his practice is devoted to tort and commercial litigation, including the defense of transportation accidents, products liability, and business disputes. Rozelsky also advises numerous companies on risk management and safety issues. Rozelsky is the current Chairman of the Trucking Committee for DRI – The Voice of the Defense Bar and is involved with several other legal defense organizations, including the American Board of Trial Advocates, the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel, the Trucking Industry Defense Association, the Transportation Lawyers Association and the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Association.
