A key piece of the Midlands technology puzzle has been put into place.
The Columbia Information Technology Council launched the Technology Directory
of the Midlands last month. The council hopes the Web-based directory will
become one-stop shopping for information about local technology companies and
related goods and services.
The directory is searchable by category/keyword, such as software or
telecommunications, and by business name. Results may be sorted by ZIP code.
Companies that are not listed in the directory also can get information about
adding a listing.
The directory may be accessed through the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce
Web site at http://www.columbiachamber.com.
Users eventually will be able to print the directory or download it as a pdf
file.
Listings show the company's name, address, phone, fax and e-mail contacts. A
description of the products and services is also provided, as is a link to a
map of the business location.
The directory's sponsors are the S.C. Technology Alliance, the city of Columbia
and the Information Technology Council, which is part of the chamber.
Columbia Mayor Bob Coble has called for the establishment of a directory to
help governments and one of the key recommendations from the Mayor's Task Force
on Technology.
Such a directory will help companies buy from local technology companies
instead of seeking goods and services outside the area.
