Average Joe growing still richer than us

Per capita personal income in each of South Carolina's metropolitan areas grew more slowly than the national average in 2006, and that's not good, said Doug Woodward, director of the University of South Carolina's Division of Research.
Business and state leaders have set a strategic goal of raising South Carolina's per capita personal income to the national average, and the state is not moving closer to that goal, he said.
"We're running a race and the rest of the participants are pulling ahead of us," he said. "We're getting clobbered."
Woodward said improving per capita income is a long-term goal and a moving target because other states also are trying to improve their personal income figures.
