AVX Develops PCI Express Card Kit as New Smaller Alternative to PCMCIA

Connector Kit Features Unique Locking Mechanism to Maximize Strength and Durability…

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AVX Corporation, a leading manufacturer of advanced passive components and connectors, has developed next generation Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) cards that support both the Express Card/34 (34mm wide) and Express Card/54 (54mm wide) form factors respectively. Additions to AVX’s PCI Express Card product family, the 9186 and 9187 Express Card Kits feature a locking mechanism that snaps into the kit frame providing maximum strength and rigidity to the connector kit.

“AVX’s 9186 and 9187 Express Card Kits offer customers a smaller and faster alternative to the current PCMCIA cards,” said Bob Bastian, Product Manager. “The Express Cards have been designed using a unique interlocking snap feature to ensure the kit is strong and robust. This also means that these products can be assembled using very simple bench-press tooling so there is no need to invest in expensive processes like ultrasonic welding or heat adhesion.”

The card covers can include a built-in SIM card or slide-in SIM, making the kit ideal for GPRS and WLAN-related applications as well as Bluetooth, mobile communication and industrial PC applications.

The kits are also available with customized plastic extensions to accommodate components that require additional board space, like LEDs and antennas.

Pricing of the 9186 and 9187 PCI Express Card Kits typically start at $7.00 for 5,000 pieces with a lead time of 12 weeks.
