Baggett Begins Duties with Commerce’s Community and Rural Development Division

Columbia, SC -- Jon Baggett, a member of the South Carolina Department of Commerce staff, is the newly assigned Community Development Manager for eight counties in the western region of South Carolina. Baggett’s assigned region will include the counties of Abbeville, Anderson, Edgefield, Greenwood, McCormick, Oconee, Pickens and Saluda.

As a member of the Community and Rural Development staff at the Department of Commerce, Jon will be available to assist local county development boards, county governments, and town governments with critical decisions important to the future growth and development of the area. His responsibilities will include activities such as strategic planning facilitation, assistance with the development of product and infrastructure necessary to attract business and industry into the region, as well as working with local governments to redevelop the downtown areas of their communities.

“We’re delighted to have Jon join our group,” said Maceo Nance, Director of the Community and Rural Development Division. “He brings to our team knowledge of local government, finance as well as economic development experience. This should allow us to more diversely assist communities and counties statewide while at the same time bringing a broader scope of assistance to the region that Jon will serve.”

Before starting his duties in community development, Baggett served as Manager of Existing and Small Business Development at the Department of Commerce. His career path has also included work with the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce and Presbyterian College.

Jon holds a BA degree from Presbyterian College and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of South Carolina. He is a graduate of the Basic Economic Development Course at Texas A & M University, and the South Carolina Economic Developer’s School.
