Carolina Connect Launches New Opportunities for Business Growth

On October 11, 2007 at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, companies from SC and NC will come together to develop new ideas, connections and resources for business growth. Keynote speakers include renowned entrepreneur Guy Kawasaki and NC Treasurer Richard Moore. In its fifth year the conference should draw 300+ business leaders from the region.
The Carolina Connect conference also provides practical sessions in three parallel tracks: Product Development/Innovation, Sources of Capital and Business Planning “Boot Camp.” Conference Sponsor AdvantageWest will partner with Swamp Fox to launch the next-generation online community of entrepreneurs, later-stage companies, service providers and capital resources.
Guy Kawasaki is managing director of Garage Technology Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm, and is a columnist for Entrepreneur Magazine. He is also one of the top 100 bloggers in the world. Previously at Apple, he had key responsibility for the success of the Macintosh computer. Mr. Kawasaki has authored eight books including “Art of the Start,” “Rules for Revolutionaries” and “How to Drive Your Competition Crazy.” He will share insights on how companies can revolutionize themselves and become more innovative.
NC Treasurer Richard Moore
Richard Moore manages over $80 billion in public monies and state investments, oversees the pension funds for more than 780,000 public sector employees, and manages the debt of state and local governments of North Carolina. The Wall Street Journal and S&P recently named NC as the second-best funded public pension system in the US for the second year in a row, a testament to Moore’s management. Moore will share insights on financial markets and trends.
Product Development and Innovation
This track is a conference by itself. Leading the first interactive session in this track is Yvonne Verse, Vice President of Strategic Development at Motorola, on achieving value from Product Development. Following her is Christine Kane, internationally-known music artist and creativity consultant on generating new product ideas. John Katsaros, internationally-known author of “Getting It Right the First Time,” will sponsor a session on researching markets for successful innovation.”Wrapping up the day, a panel of experienced and successful product leaders will talk candidly about what they’ve learned from product failures.
Sources of Capital
The Sources of Capital track features sessions on sources of debt, angel investors, venture capital and project-based financing. Panelists from a wide variety of sources will be available to discuss how to pursue these sources.
Business Planning Boot Camp
Four sessions will help entrepreneurs organize their business thinking and planning to achieve their vision for success. Starting with defining and protecting their idea, then leading to understanding the competition and funding the business, this track ends with handling and managing success. Speakers are all experienced entrepreneurs and service providers with successful track records.
