Jobs. Economic opportunity. Better health care.
That's what a university medical center designation at Greenville Hospital
System and a new health sciences research institute could bring to the Upstate,
health and education experts said Tuesday.
The rest of the state stands to benefit as well because of the significant
economic impact such a project could generate, said Mack Whittle, chairman of
the University of South Carolina board of trustees.
"What we have seen these past few months is not merely change, it is a
transformation in South Carolina's approach to health science research,
education, job creation and public health," he said. "Real things happen in a
short time when there is a shared vision. And more great things will come as a
result of this vision."
