College of Charleston Develops the Office of Economic Analysis.

The College of Charleston’s School of Business and Economics has recently created the Office of Economic Analysis.

The Office will work with the School’s industry / sector focused research programs, such as the Office of Tourism Research and The Carter Center for Real Estate, to provide objective analysis and interpretation of economic data and trends to better understand the economy of our region.

The Office will also participate in the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce’s forecasting project.

“We are very pleased to begin this new venture,” says Bob Pitts, Dean of the School of Business and Economic at the College of Charleston. “The new Office of Economic Analysis will be a key link to understanding the economic dynamics of our complex and developing economic and business community.”

Frank Hefner will serve as Director of the Office. Prof. Hefner has extensive experience in applied research centers: The Institute for Public Policy and Business Research (now called the Institute for Policy and Social Research) at the University of Kansas and the Division of Research in the Moore School at the University of South Carolina, where he provided quarterly and annual forecasts of the state and national economy. Since joining the College, he has participated in a number of studies funded by both private entities and public agencies. His most recent endeavor was a study on the economic impact of recycling, which was funded by S.C. DHEC and S.C. Department of Commerce.

Marcia Snyder will serve as a Research Associate in the Office while continuing as Senior Instructor in Economics.
