Columbia Information Technology Council Announces Palmetto Pillar Award Winners
COLUMBIA, S.C.—May 9, 2003—The Columbia Information Technology Council (ITC)
today announced the winners of the 2nd Annual Columbia ITC Palmetto Pillar
Awards. The awards were presented during a ceremony on May 8 at the Capital
City Club in downtown Columbia.
The Palmetto Pillar award winner in the Technology Application category is
Intervivos, a web-based software development company whose team has recently
completed a project known as PageBuilder.com, which provides a combination of
software and design materials that enable Internet subscribers to create and
maintain their own sophisticated business-class websites.
The Technology Development Pillar is Factory Systems, LLC, for its development
of a software program for factory floor statistical process control. The
program was designed for touch screen computers for the collection of process
management data to allow maximum quality control.
The Technology in Education Pillar is PCTeachIt, for creating a 7X24 website
with content designed to help teachers in middle and elementary school
integrate technology in to their curriculum as well as for creating a
bi-monthly magazine.
Fast Forward is this year's Community Service Pillar for its inception of a
community technology center that helps people of all ages to experience
technology in a relaxed, enjoyable setting. More than 9,000 hours of volunteer
time have been donated to the center.
In the area of Individual Achievement, this year's Pillar is Stuart Anderson
with netSweng, LLC. Stuart is the lead developer for the Linux Standard Base,
a group working to formalize a standard base for Linux. The Linux Standard
Base has helped unify the Linux and Unix markets.
Contingency Planning & Outsourcing, Inc. is this year's Small Enterprise
Pillar, for developing the Resource Tracker System (Tracker), an approach to
recovery planning that is quick, cost-effective and viable. Tracker consists
of a software system and a Model Plan. In many cases, using the Tracker system
can result in addressing recovery planning in a matter of days or weeks rather
than months or years.
The Information Technology Council also recognized Mr. John Hall of SCANA
Corporation with this year's new Hall of Fame award. This award honors an
individual in the technology community who exhibits extraordinary commitment
through driving initiatives designed to advance the mission of the ITC.
''Each of these award winners provides exceptional value to the Midlands
technology community, and the ITC is proud to honor them with these
well-deserved awards,'' says Bob Hudson, Chairman of the ITC. ''The ITC is
enthusiastic about the prosperity of technology in our region, and feel that
the Palmetto Pillar Awards are critical in recognizing those who will drive
that growth''.
The ITC's Resource Planning Committee was also pleased to both announce and
demonstrate its new Midlands Technology Directory last evening. This tool will
allow members of the technology/business community to quickly reference others
by name, industry or product/service. The directory is set to be released this
month.
