Foreign Language Educator Workshop
USC Upstate Foreign Language Educator Workshop
To Focus On Program Performance Assessment
Spartanburg, S.C. - The foreign language program of the University of South Carolina Upstate presents a workshop called "Reflections" every spring for foreign language teachers, from elementary to university level, from across the state.
The theme of this year's workshop is "Performance Assessment: Don't Think of Having a World Language Program Without It."
Educators are invited to the USC Upstate campus on Friday, March 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for the workshop which will focus on assessment as a framework for self-directed learner growth. It will be held in the ballroom of the Campus Life Center, and continental breakfast and lunch are included with registration.
The workshop facilitator is Dr. Kristin Hoyt, assistant professor of French and foreign language education at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia. Prior to her position at Kennesaw State University, Kristin served as state-level coordinator for World Languages and International Education at the Indiana Department of Education.
Dr. Hoyt has classroom teaching experience in the K-12 setting as a French teacher, is active professionally at the local, state, regional and national levels, and has given workshops and presentations on numerous topics related to world languages education.
Participants will learn how to use performance assessment to measure and evaluate student proficiency; how performance assessment easily lends itself to learner differentiation; how student performance assessment generates the needed data for program evaluation; how to effectively expand your assessment repertoire; and how to choose from all the available testing options.
The registration form can be downloaded from www.uscupstate.edu/academics/arts_sciences/languages_literature/default..... For further information, contact Dr. June Carter at jcarter@uscupstate.edu or (864) 503-5881.
