Sabal Medical relocates to SC after receiving SC Launch investment

GREENVILLE, SC, October 10, 2006 - Sabal Medical - a former Washington state-based medical technology company - announced today it is relocating to South Carolina after receiving a $150,000 investment from SCRA's SC Launch! collaboration.

The move bolsters the growth of biotechnology and instrumentation in South Carolina. Sabal Medical simultaneously announced it has formed a relationship with Greenville Hospital System (GHS), allowing for the testing of new, automated nursing medication carts and adapting to the System's leading-edge pharma technology leadership that is nationally recognized.

"By working with the SC Launch! program, Sabal is able to take this technology to a broader marketplace. The relocation to South Carolina was a strategic move," Bill Park, Sabal Medical's President and CEO, said. "SC Launch! strategic seed money has positioned us for growth and, with GHS, continued product development.

The move follows an initial seed investment by SC Launch! that is expected to generate additional follow-on capital from other angel investment groups in South Carolina.

"By enticing high impact technologies like Sabal Medical to relocate to the state, SCRA is fostering the growth of the Knowledge Economy, particularly in the field of biotechnology. By building on our state's strengths in this area, we will propel job creation and wealth for the citizens of South Carolina," SCRA CEO Bill Mahoney said. "This seed investment will continue to pay dividends by spurring growth and development in biotechnology. This collaboration fulfills SCRA's primary vision of advancing technology to grow the Knowledge Economy."

Sabal Medical (www.sabalmedical.com) provides patent-pending automated medication carts and bar code verification software for pharmacists and nurses to ensure proper administration of medicine, combining the security and tracking benefits hospital pharmacies require. Sabal's medication cart, named Palmetto, helps nurses and pharmacists close the loop, so they can provide safe care by accessing and administering medicines at the bedside. Sabal's software controls access to medications, reducing "work arounds" and potential for errors.

"Our technology has an integrated level of security, control and portability not found in today's solutions," Park said. "It is not just another nursing cart but rather a comprehensive solution, certain to bring nurses, patients, and pharmacists together to save lives-'One Patient at a Time'."

Greenville Hospital System, already a national leader in pharmacy automation, has agreed to serve as a test site for Sabal Medical as the Company continues its advancements in medical carts and software.

"Our pharmacy and nurses will have the opportunity to use the Sabal Medical equipment and provide feedback on product enhancements that will promote practical use in the clinical environment," Fred Bender, Director of Pharmacy for Greenville Hospital System, said.

"Companies such as Sabal Medical are important partners to our state and GHS, respectively, as we prepare for the Knowledge Economy," GHS President and CEO Michael Riordan said. "Such leading edge technology gives our patients access to the latest patient care advances."

"This technology ensures five critically important patient rights - verification that it's the right patient, the right medication, the right dose, the right route and the right time," Park said. "Sabal's approach assures patients and medical facilities of privacy and accuracy through our comprehensive delivery system. We are honored to be recognized not only by the medical community, but also by SC Launch!, and we look forward to headquartering our operations in South Carolina."

The Sabal announcement follows a series of others by SC Launch!, marking the fourth South Carolina company to receive funding by SC Launch!. In recent months,
Argolyn Bioscience of Charleston, Advanced Automation Consulting of Columbia and eSchoolware of Daniel Island each received seed money.
