New Carolina appoints Upstate Alliance President and CEO, Hal Johnson, to Board of Directors
UPSTATE, SC -- New Carolina: South Carolina's Council on Competitivenss (SCCoC), has appointed Upstate Alliance President and CEO, Hal Johnson, to serve on the Board of Directors. The SCCoC is leading the implementation of a new economic development strategy aimed at improving the quality of life and raising the per capita income in South Carolina, which is currently a discouraging 82 percent of the national average.
In order to combat economic "mediocrity" the SCCoC works with partners from business, government, academia and the non- profit sector to address economic development issues. Education of potential and current workers and the development of industry clusters such as automotive, distribution, health sciences, and textiles are especially important in cultivating a prosperous and efficient economic environment. The SCCoC is dedicated to enabling the people of South Carolina to enjoy the same amenities, luxuries, and lifestyles as the rest of the country, and it is only through economic growth, development, and education that workers in South Carolina will begin to earn nationally competitive wages.
President and CEO Hal Johnson said of his appointment to the Board, "I am really excited about the opportunity to represent the economic development community on the Board of New Carolina. I hope to keep the Upstate region at the forefront of every corporate decision maker's mind as we consolidate our visions into one voice, a strong voice, with the rest of the South Carolina business community."
