GOPS Group, Marketing Partner of Proterra Energy, Wins in Biotech Sector of Five-Ventures® Business Plan Competition
ASHEVILLE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GOPS Group (www.GOPSgroup.com), a consulting organization specializing in marketing renewable energy products and solutions, today announced that it has won an award for a business plan for a renewable alternative fuel source.
Brett Fritz, managing partner of GOPS, said the plan for the AlgaMax™ System won in the Biotechnology sector of the seventh annual dynamic early-stage business development competition sponsored by Five Ventures® (www.five-ventures.com) for Southeastern companies.
The AlgaMax engineering and business plan, developed by Proterra Energy (www.ProterraEnergy.com) of St. Paul, Minnesota and its CEO, Mark Hodges, was focused on what Mr. Fritz called “an alternative fuel source for power plants that provides a renewable option to coal which we believe has the potential to change how renewable biomass-based power is delivered to the market.”
Proterra’s AlgaMax System, he said, involves converting algae as biomass into electricity, “providing a complete fossil-fuel alternative that is a cost-effective and efficient energy source.” Mr. Fritz said AlgaMax has a near-zero carbon emissions footprint, and “is ready right now to be implemented into a full-scale operational power plant.”
The Five Ventures competition, hosted by UNC Charlotte and the Charlotte Research Institute, is one of the most prestigious events for business plans in the Southeast. Winners were chosen in Biotechnology, Information Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, Retail/Service, and Student/Non-Profit.
“It is always rewarding to gain recognition for innovation,” Mr. Fritz said. “For a new process like AlgaMax in the all-important field of renewable energy, it is particularly special. We are greatly honored to win this very prestigious award.”
