As the leading economic development organization in South Carolina, the South Carolina Department of Commerce had another record-breaking year for capital investment and jobs recruited. In 2007, the Department of Commerce was involved in $4.05 billion in capital investment and 15,666 jobs recruited. In 2006 there was $2.99 billion in capital investment and 14,420 new jobs. Substantive tort reform, workers’ comp reform and income tax relief enables the state’s business-friendly climate to continue to produce opportunity.
