COLUMBIA, S.C., Dec 14, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- The Board of Directors
of SCANA Corporation (NYSE: SCG) has elected Neville O. Lorick as president and
chief operating officer of South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G), the
principal subsidiary of SCANA.
Lorick, 50, succeeds Jack Skolds, who resigned from SCE&G in August 2000.
Lorick had been serving as acting president of SCE&G and was previously vice
president of fossil and hydroelectric operations. In this new position, Lorick
will be responsible for the utilities' day-to-day electric and gas operations,
including overseeing a workforce of approximately 3,300 people. He reports to
Bill Timmerman, SCANA's chairman, president and chief executive officer.
"Neville is a recognized expert in the field of power generation and during his
29-year career with SCE&G he has exhibited strong leadership in many operating
positions within the utility company," said Timmerman.
Lorick's roots at SCE&G date back to his father, who retired from SCE&G as a
lineman. Lorick joined SCE&G in 1971 as a student assistant meter reader.
Following his graduation from the University of South Carolina with a
bachelor's of science degree in mechanical engineering, he was hired as an
engineer. In 1979, Lorick was promoted to plant manager of the company's
Canadys Station fossil steam power plant. In 1988 he became general manager of
fossil and production and later held management positions in production and
operations support in the company's generation operations. He was promoted to
vice president of fossil and hydroelectric operations in 1995, and was
responsible for the company's six fossil steam, six hydroelectric and other
internal combustion turbines with a generating capacity of more than 4,600
megawatts.
A native of Lexington, SC, Lorick is chairman of the Southeastern Electric
Exchange and is a member of the board of trustees for South Carolina State
University and serves on the boards of the River Alliance and Saluda Shoals
Park. He and his wife, Janice, live in Lexington and have three children.
Headquartered in Columbia, SC, SCANA Corporation is a $7 billion asset
