SCSU Employee Is Female State Employee of the Year
The South Carolina State Employees Association (SCSEA) recently recognized Shirley B. Caldwell, student services program coordinator at South Carolina State University (SCSU), as the 2006 Outstanding Female State Employee of the Year. The award, given to those who give exemplary service to the state and its citizens, was given to Caldwell at the organization\'s annual meeting.
Caldwell, of Orangeburg, S.C., has more than 30 years of service with SCSU having held a number of positions including being an administrative specialist and pre-school teacher. Currently, she works in the office of the Registrar.
"I am pleased that one of our dedicated employees has received the honor of being named the 2006 Outstanding Female State Employee of the Year by the South Carolina State Employees Association," stated President Andrew Hugine, Jr. "Being selected from almost 20,000 members of SCSEA is certainly a tribute to Mrs. Caldwell's commitment to providing excellent service to the students of South Carolina State University and the citizenship of the State of South Carolina."
Founded in 1896 as a land grant institution with a mission of providing service to the citizens of the state, South Carolina State University has evolved from a small teachers college into a major University center of learning and research. Located in Orangeburg, S.C. with a student population of some 4,500, South Carolina State University offers more than 50 different fields of study on the undergraduate and graduate levels.
