The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce's Technology Committee is sponsoring a
session entitled ''The Economic Potential of Biotech and Nanotechnology in South
Carolina''. Biotech and nanotechnology are causing a fundamental shift in the
economic base of industrialized nations in general and the U.S. in particular.

South Carolina can prosper in this changing economy or be left behind. During
this hour and a half session, Dr. William R. Daggett will describe the
fundamentals that underpin bio and nanotech and what businesses can do to
position themselves well for success. He will also describe what state
policies, support structures, and education programs must be put in place to
propel South Carolina into a leadership position in biotech and nanotechnology.

Following the session, a networking reception will be held where Dr. Daggett
will be available for questions. As a South Carolina Chamber member, you can

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Dr. William R. Daggett is president of the International Center for Leadership
in Education. He is known worldwide for his efforts to move the education
system toward more rigorous and relevant skills and knowledge for all students.
He founded the International Center after serving in various management
positions at the New York State Education Department, where he spearheaded a
series of restructuring initiatives to focus the state's education system on
the skills and knowledge students need in today's technological,
information-based society. Dr. Daggett has held both teaching and
administrative positions at the secondary two-year college, fouryear liberal
arts college and university levels. He serves as the lead consultant for the
International Center's network of highly
successful model schools committed to rigorous and relevant curriculum for all
students. These experiences give him a practical, broad-based perspective on
issues facing education. Dr. Daggett has worked on school reform initiatives in
several states as well as worked with education ministries and educational
institutions in other countries. He also serves as a consultant to many
business organizations.
