ThinkTEC® Leads Effort to Take FastTrac® Statewide
Entrepreneurial Training Program Will Offer Revised Courses

CHARLESTON, SC (July 24, 2005) - ThinkTEC, an initiative of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, today announces plans for overseeing expansion of FastTrac into a statewide program. ThinkTEC will strengthen this effort by working with other agencies/organizations to help accelerate the growth of a statewide network of FastTrac providers. First to provide this award-winning program in South Carolina, ThinkTEC will partner with other organizations such as Small Business Development Centers, Chambers of Commerce, and educational institutions, among others, to help execute FastTrac classes.

FastTrac is a 10-12 week training program that teaches entrepreneurs how to plan for and build a sustainable business. Recently, a national gathering of FastTrac facilitators and administrators was held at the Kauffman Foundation in Kansas City. The group gathered to review three highly anticipated revised course programs for FastTrac New Venture, FastTrac Tech and FastTrac Planning.

The FastTrac program has been identified on a state level for its contributions to developing business. Following the lead of President Bush in creating a Council on Economic Competitiveness, Governor Mark Sanford established the South Carolina Council on Economic Competitiveness. A primary mission of both councils is fostering entrepreneurship and FastTrac accomplishes this goal.

Additional efforts to expand FastTrac come in the form of financial grants. ThinkTEC has applied and received preliminary approval for a $250,000 ThinkTEC FastTrac Education Grant. This grant would ensure expansion of FastTrac into a statewide initiative.
