University of South Carolina receives nanotechnology grant

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The University of South Carolina has received a grant of $800,000 to create a lab that could develop technology in tissue engineering, sensing, drug delivery and other applications.
The money announced Thursday comes from the W.M. Keck Foundation.
USC's NanoCenter will work with the Scripps Research Institute of La Jolla, Calif., on the projects.
Qian Wang and Cathy Murphy of USC's department of chemistry and biochemistry are leading the research effort.
Wang said other departments, including mechanical and chemical engineering, biology, pharmacy and physics are likely to be included in future research.
