A world-renowned nanoscience researcher is heading to the University of South
Carolina, school officials say.
Richard Webb, until recently a top physics professor at the University of
Maryland, is expected to jump-start USC's burgeoning nanoscience program.
Nanoscience involves manipulating matter at its molecular level. The field is
believed to have a wealth of practical applications, from creating smaller
computers to making stronger new materials.
USC had courted Webb, who specializes in nanoscale electronics, for more than
year. President Andrew Sorensen was heavily involved in the recruitment effort.
