COLUMBIA, S.C., Nov. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- e-Government solution provider
VC3, Inc. announced today a contract with the City of Hickory, North Carolina,
to initiate discovery consulting and implement the GovHost.CitizenRequest
module. This module, which allows citizens to log onto the city web site and
request city services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, is expected to go live
February 2001. During discovery consulting, a team from VC3 will assess the
existing technology infrastructure and develop a framework of upgrades and
implementations to support e-government services. Hickory will look to
implement other e-Government services later in 2001.
"We formed a 10-member team to review current methods of processing
citizen requests," said Warren Wood, assistant city manager for the City of
Hickory. "At the completion of this two-year study, the city realized a need
to change the existing software used for citizen requests. We looked at five
companies, and VC3 was the one that met all the criteria. After a site visit
to Conyers, GA, another VC3 customer, the team decided that VC3 understands
the needs of local governments and has the capabilities to meet our e-
government requirements."
The criteria set forth by the City of Hickory assessment team includes:

* Ability to integrate with back-end software including a financial

* Ability to produce reports on open and closed requests
* Trend-tracking of citizen requests and web site usage
* Allow citizens to place a request from the comfort of their homes.
